Why Green?

21st Century Thinking

The mantra of the other parties are all ones developed for a world we no longer live in. The Green Party has a unique position of having formed in the last 30 years to combat and facilitate the changes required to deal with the problems the world now accutely faces.

Bored of the usual suspects?

The Labour Party rose from the Liberals in 1906 and is fundementally a party for the working classes rights in a time of heavy industrial manufacturing in Britain. Under the guise of New Labour their striving for the centre ground of politics has not left them with any strong policy values but rather a sheer lack of direction coupled with a style over substance mentality.

The Conservatives mentality hasn't fundementally changed ever. They are still the party of survival of the fitest, one where the role of government is minimal and taxes are light. One where business rules and if the weak suffer it is because of their failure to make themselves strong. They belive in keeping the status quo and helping the well off improve their situation. The very term 'Conservative' means to aim to keep things the same. The Conservative Party is simply not mentally equiped to comprehend the kinds of changes required to build a functional and fullfilling society in the coming century.

The Libdems describe themselves as neither left nor right wing with liberal social and economic values, they have no confirmed direction on the difficult policies for structural change required for our coming environmental and therefor economic challenges. The various Communist and Social parties are similar, although mimicing certain environmental policies when they are brought to their attention, they do not appear to show the foresight to be able to come to the essential policy directions of the 21st century of their own accord.

The other parties such as the British National Party and the United Kingdom Independence Party seem preoccupied with issues that are fundementally unconnected in any way to our current problems but are being created by our popular press to deflect from the real issues. Race and Nationalism have been used to deflect from issues of resource and wealth constraint for millenia.

Planning Now for our Future

The Green Party's Manifesto for a Sustainable Society has been developed since the 1970's foundation of the party to combat and provide long term solutions to the very problems we face today. We understand the causes and the solutions to the economic limits to growth that are resource depletion (such as Peak Oil, fresh water shortages and exhausted ocean fish stocks), and the detrimental polution feebacks (e.g. Climate Change, increasing recycling costs and massive traffic congestion).

With all this in mind our Policies are designed to provide real jobs, good quality affordable food, energy security and cheap and accessable transport for not only the imediate future, but for all of our indefinite futures!
