The Green Party in Exeter believes that to improve the lives of people in Exeter we need a fairer society, a healthier environment and a sustainable economy. We do not believe that well-being and quality of life is dependent on economic growth in the city. Instead we believe that lives can be improved through improved public services, affordable and high quality housing, better public transport, supporting local enterprise and in securing and developing sustainable jobs.
Exeter City Council is responsible for a range of services in the city including providing council housing, deciding planning applications, collecting refuse and providing recycling facilities, street cleaning, administering car parks and managing a range of environmental health services, parks, markets and halls. The City Council collects council tax and sets business rates. It also promotes tourism and supports the arts, leisure facilities and museums.
We are developing policy in all areas. We have recently launched a manifesto for the 2010 Exeter City Council elections, to be held on 9th September.
Our manifesto is the beginning of an ongoing commitment from Exeter Green Party to present positive and transformational ideas on how we can ensure social and environmental justice in Exeter. As a democratic Party we are engaging the people of Exeter in developing the ideas for creating a fairer and healthier city with a more sustainable local economy.
